Making a Case for Inclusion in our Schools: “Adding an Elite Service”

In the Middle East, inclusive programs for children are in short supply. This is due to a combination of factors, mainly to lack of understanding of disability-related issues, negative stereotyping and lack of available resources. Earlier this year, many Middle Eastern countries recent signed the United Nations Protocol to Convention of Rights of Persons with Disabilities. As a result, there is now an opportunity and increased need for schools to follow the lead of other progressive countries by embracing and creating “inclusive” educational programs. This can at the same time, add an important and valuable component to a school’s repertoire of services.
