Communicating With and Involving Parents in the Learning Environment

by Kay Allen, Ph.D.

Parents are a child’s first teachers. So, why is it that when children begin school the parents are not embraced as co-educators? Developing skills and approaches necessary to communicate with and involve parents in the learning environment will be the focus of this talk. In particular, specific techniques of how and what to communicate to parents and approaches to increase parental involvement will be highlighted. The talk, along with handout materials, will provide teachers and administrators a plan for communicating with and involving parents in the learning environment.

Audience: All teachers, administrators, and parents
